The Site Has Moved!
Hey everyone…I mentioned an exciting announcement the other day. Well, here it is: the site has moved!
WordPress.com has been great to me, but I wanted to better the website, and use more resources that only self-hosted could provide. Everything on the site has transferred except for the email subscriptions. If you were a subscriber, you will have to re-subscribe.
The new site is www.brandongilliland.com. The website will be able to serve its readers better on this new platform.
I look forward to the community that will continue on the new site!
Check out the new site!!!
Updates
Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I will be taking this week off from blogging. I will most likely have some posts scheduled, but I have finals next week…I will need to focus on those exams.
I do have an exciting announcement that will be announced shortly. Stay tuned for more. Lots of things are going to change for this site (in an awesome way!).

Publishing Quality Content
About a week ago, I published a post titled “Is Your Blog Effectively Reaching Others?” I was really surprised to see the feedback that so many people provided in the comments section of the post. In fact, it was the top commented post in the history of this blog!
In this post, I wrote about how blogging has started to become something only bloggers take part in. When I wrote this post, I was starting to wonder if blogging was going to eventually fizzle out. With the engagement in other social networking sites, it seems that not many people want to read blogs. I don’t blame them! I do not want to sit in front of a computer all day to read every single blog post that comes across my reader. That would take forever! Instead, I believe that blog should have quality content that is worth reading.
Here were some of the comments from many of the readers in response to the post:
“Someone said recently that they could see a day when there are more writers than readers. If that’s true then you’re absolutely right, content will be all important if you want to stand out and make a difference by what you write or publish.”
“Content is the key – books, movies, blogs….Get that right and next comes marketing savvy – but without content no amount of marketing will pull and keep readership – I reckon”
“I wonder if blogs have a shelf life. Maybe, when people get tired of a particular approach or them, they look for something new…”
These first few comments provide great insight. For the most part, standard blogs do seem to have a “shelf life”. Maybe if blogs are approached differently, change would happen?
Here are some more comments:
“It seems to me that bloggers will need to avoid not just tired reiterations of other blogs, but of their own. So, a successful blog would be never the same, but constantly changing and improving to re-interest its audience.”
“…If the writer is challenging and putting out great content, even if it is recycled, it can have an impact. Not everyone connects with the way everyone writes. So if someone recycles and re-purposes content and makes it fresh and new, I think it’s okay.”

Avoiding reiterations is important. I can not tell you how many times I have read these types of blogs! I’m sure I have been guilty as well…Making and creating your own posts and ideas are things that will drive people to your site. The blogs that are extremely successful are doing this! I wish there was a set list to check off to see these results, but there isn’t. It takes time, work, and quality content. I’m in the process of this right now.
I also agree with Joe’s comment about recycled content. I think that it is great to re-publish (with a new twist) older posts. I have done this a few times on this blog, and it seems to work really well. There are also certain posts that seem to be the search engine driving posts. It is great to have many of these. Writing on relevant content that people want to read will create these types on posts. In fact, John Saddington calls these type of posts…evergreen posts! You can read about his insight here!
All in all, blogs need to be approached differently if results are going to be expected. I am working on ways right now to re-invent this website. I have many ideas flowing…
